Origin of Tragedy

All types of dramatic poetry known in Greece in fifth century B.C. namely tragic, satiric and comic originated in the worship of Dionysus, the deity of wild vegetations fruits and especially the wine. In his honor at the offering of spring season, dithyrambs, hymns were performed by the chorus. They used to dress like satyrs the legendary followers of Dionysus.
